Look around your house, what do you see? Is there a favorite book that brings back memories? Perhaps there is a quilt that has been passed down in your family? Your home chronicles your experiences, travels, and dreams.
You surround yourself with artifacts to create a place that documents where you've been and inspire where we're going.
We all go through phases. Having recently moved several times in a short time-span, I understand that as we travel, you can sometimes feel like your sense of identity is shifting. I learned the importance of redefining the term “home” and creating the space that helped me continue to express my authentic self while navigate my new surroundings.
When you reimagine a space - first with your imagination and second with your art and design choices - you create a space where you can simply be. More importantly, you introduce new possibilities and invite transformation into your life.
As an artist, I enjoy making art that is a reimagining of space into places where we are free to bring our whole selves and build new futures.
I start by taking photographs of buildings, outdoor environments, and interior/exterior spaces that inspire me. I work primarily with acrylics and collage and meticulously map dense, layered colors, ink, tape, paper-weaving, and graphite.
For me, art is way of reclaiming home and our identities.
